Two Perspectives

‘The right perspective makes the impossible possible.’ -Unknown

The weather gods have been smiling on the city for quite sometime now. There have been intermittent showers, downpours and moody drizzle. It’s an overcast sky just waiting to pour its heart out and drench the vast open land and here I am sitting with my hot cuppa, savoring the aroma of zesty lemon and the robust ginger and relishing each and every sip of my flavored tea. I have very skillfully avoided the temptation of gulping down the delicious fritters which are generally accompanied with tea in this weather.

The overcast sky has given me food for thought and I can’t but help to think that we all have different perspectives for various situations we face in our lives. What may appeal to us may be unappealing to the other. Similarly an overcast sky has different connotations.

Many  find a sky laden with clouds as a welcome sight and consider it as a harbinger of hope as it brings rain. Overjoyed children making splashes in the puddle, some heaving  a sigh of relief as it would end their misery of enduring intense heat and many would be looking forward to the combination of hot cup of tea and the yummy spicy fritters. The more romantically inclined going out on a long drive with their partners and immersing themselves in the rhapsody of the falling raindrops. The one with the adventurous streak in them will just take out their bikes and paint the town red. The umbrellas of different hues add vibrant colors to the surroundings. The teenagers indulging themselves in the rain dance, miles away from the stresses of their mundane lives. The agriculturists would see it as a blessing for their parched lands and wilted crops and praying for a better yield which would bring a deluge of  happiness.

Everything appears to be so pleasing, happy and bursting with joy, there are positive vibrations everywhere and nothing can spoil it.

On the other hand the same sky with its dark clouds appear ominous for people who have been tolerating the nature’s fury for quite sometime and do not need any downpour to add to their already existing woes. Life suddenly seems so unfair. The persistent cloudy skies bring a smell of mustiness in the air and the housewives are dreading to even think about the clothes waiting to be taken out for airing and the awful weather has resulted in the piling of clothes which have to be dried. Their life already burdened with the domestic chores has added another load to their never-ending list.

There is a match being played somewhere and the team is on the brink of victory but the weather has played a spoil sport and the match has to be abandoned. One can only hear cries of anguish and despair. The farmers had their fair share of rains and any more would result in over watering and threaten their crops and one can hear them cursing their destiny.

For some rain brings hope, for others misery. In our lives also we react to situations differently. What is good for others may be awful for us but then there are people who are not bogged down by their circumstances because of a simple approach- ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’.

Difficult times never last forever. Either you get drowned in the difficulties you are facing or you swim to the shore and emerge out of it.

That’s true …there are at least two sides to everything..every thought…which sure we choose to be depends on the circumstances we are in and the decision we take…
